ALDI Smart Kids

Gift cards or donations up to $5,000 to make a positive impact on local kids’ health and wellness through education, arts, athletics, or any other program that inspires kids to be active and healthy. Applications are open Feb. 1 - Dec. 15 each year.

$1,000 for projects in a wide range of areas including arts, tech, community development and more.

Every Kid Sports Pass

$150 scholarship to help cover the cost of youth sports registration fees. Families with kids ages 4-18 who qualify for F&R lunch, SNAP, ACA Insurance and/or WIC can apply four times a year per child. *Will reopen Aug. 1, 2023

First Book Book Bank

New books and resources for free & at low cost to schools and programs serving kids in need (not a grant, but a great resource!). Book Bank books and resources are generously donated by publishing partners and are available to First Book Members for only the cost of shipping & handling—the books are FREE!

Kars4Kids Small Grant Program

$2,000 to support educational and mentoring opportunities and support to develop youth into productive and engaged members of society.

Nora Roberts Foundation Grant

$5,000 to support literacy, children’s programs, the arts and humanitarian efforts. *Can apply once/year, takes up to 7 months to hear back from submission date. Quarterly deadlines are March 1, June 1, Oct. 1, & Dec. 1

NSHSS Educator Grants

The National Society of High School Scholars offers registered educator-members grant opportunities throughout the year to offset or cover the cost of things like classroom supplies, training, and professional development. You must register as an Educator on their website to be eligible.

Ross Store-Based Giving Program

Support, primarily in the form of gift cards to schools serving a community within 25 miles of a Ross store. Mission is to create brighter futures by building academic achievement and life skills in economically disadvantaged youth, ages 3-24.

Toshiba America Grants for Math & Science Teachers

For teachers who are passionate about making science and math more engaging for their students.  Successful projects tap into the natural curiosity of students, enable students to frame their own scientific questions and incorporate the expertise of community partners.  Must be for project-based learning. Summer and after-school programs aren’t eligible, and requests solely for computers/laptops/tablets aren’t considered.

Jan 7 • Summer Learning Awards

$10,000 in recognition of exceptional, informal or enrollment-based summer programs that keep students safe and healthy, support their academic achievement and growth, and improve the well-being of our nation’s most vulnerable youth.

Feb 1 • Clif Bar Foundation Small Grants (Spring)

$5,000 (on average) to support daily operating costs. Prioritizes projects that address two or more of the following: • strengthen food systems • enhance equitable community health outcomes • safeguard environment and natural resources. Awards announced in June.

Feb 1 • AASL Innovative Reading Grant

$2,500 for the planning and implementation of a unique and innovative program for children to motivate and encourage reading, especially with struggling readers. Applicant must be a member of AASL.

Feb 4 • Gro More Good Grant

$1,000 to bring the life-enhancing benefits of gardens to communities, for the development of new and expansion of existing youth gardens and green spaces serving 15 or more kids.

Feb 13 • Snapdragon Book Foundation Grant

Funding for books that will be used repeatedly by school-aged children, processing or cataloguing fees from book vendors (for processing of the books ordered in conjunction with your Snapdragon project), reference materials for use by students, magazine or newspaper subscriptions.

Late Feb • Dollar General Summer Reading Grant

Up to $3,000 for the creation or expansion of summer reading programs. Must target Pre-K through 12th grade students who are new readers, target below grade level readers, and/or assist readers with learning disabilities.

March 31 • Classics for Kids Matching Grant (Spring)

Provides stringed instruments for schools that believe in the transformative power of strings. Applicants must demonstrate need and a commitment to raising matching funds to be seriously considered for a grant.

$1,500 to $5,000 to test educators’ creative, new ideas and support project-based learning that advances students’ cultural understanding and appreciation, anti-racism commitments, and understanding of civic engagement & democracy. Awards announced in Aug. *Must be an NEA member

June 15 • NEA Learning & Leadership Grant (Spring)

$2,000 or $5,000 For the professional development of NEA members. Grants of $2,000 awarded to individuals to participate in high-quality PD like summer institutes, conferences, & seminars; $5,000 grants awarded to groups for collegial study like study groups, action research, & plan development. Awards announced in Aug. *Must be an NEA member

June 15 • NEA Student Success Grant (Spring)

$2,000 or $5,000 for projects that support/promote students • critical thinking & problem-solving skills • personalized/experiential learning • mastery of essential academic content • cultural understanding & appreciation • communication/collaboration skills • learning connected to real-world issues & challenges. Awards announced in Aug. *Must be an NEA member

For youth garden programs interested in preserving and creating pollinator habitats to help rebuild declining pollinator populations. Schools serving kids between the ages of 2 and 14 are eligible to apply. Awards announced Sept. 1

July 31 • H.B. Fuller Company Foundation

$5,000 to $10,000 for projects that help young people grow into productive, successful adults.  The Foundation awards grants in two areas: (1) STEM education and (2) leadership development for youth. 

august / september

New dates post in Aug • Skatepark Project Grant

$1,000 to $25,000 to construct new, quality skateparks in low-income communities. The Foundation prioritizes projects that can demonstrate a strong grassroots commitment, particularly in the form of planning and fundraising by local skateboarders and community groups. Priority given to projects built from concrete by experienced skatepark contractors and include local skaters in the planning, fundraising and design process.

Aug 1 • Kids Run the Nation Grant

$500 to $1,000 in support of new or existing elementary and middle school running clubs. Funds can support marketing materials, program websites, permits or usage fees and participation awards. 

Aug 1 • Mockingbird Foundation Grant

$10,000 to address areas of importance to the Phish fan community (music education for children). Mockingbird is especially interested in projects that encourage and foster creative expression in any musical form, and funds projects that include the provision of instruments, texts and office materials, and the support of learning/practice/performance space and instructors/instruction.

New dates post in Sept • American Honda Foundation Education Grants

$20,000 to $75,000 for projects focusing on STEM and environmental education, job training, and literacy.  Honda funds projects reflecting the basic tenets, beliefs and philosophies of Honda companies: imaginative, creative, youthful, forward-thinking, scientific, humanistic and innovative. 

Sept 30 • Prime Time Family Reading Grant

Materials and support to lead a six-week reading, discussion and storytelling program. A university scholar and a storyteller act as discussion leaders and conduct weekly storytelling and discussion sessions based on award-winning children's picture books. This is for elementary school aged children.

Mid to late Nov • 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant

$675,000 over five years to launch/run 21st Century before and after school programs offering academic, artistic and cultural enrichment opportunities to students at no cost to families. New grantees receive $150,000 a year in years 1-3, $125,000 in year 4, and $100,000 in year 5. Previous grantees may apply for continuation funding ($450,000 over five years — $100,000 a year in years 1-3 and $95,000 a year in years 4-5). KDE typically announces awards in mid-March

Dec 17 • Youth Garden Grant

Award package worth $1,050 to support educational youth garden projects that enhance the quality of life for students and their communities; provides a variety of gardening tools and supplies, including: $1,000 customizable garden tool package from Corona, pallet of soil, soaker hose and nozzle, gardening gloves, seed packages, fertilizer, KidsGardening.org curriculum package, etc.

Dec 31 • Carson-Myre Charitable Foundation

Awards vary depending on project.  Best time to submit a proposal is between mid-December and mid-January.  The district can submit only one combined request per year — each year's proposal will be chosen by the grants office based on the Foundation's funding interests at the time, typically with an arts education focus.

Dec 31 • Shade Structure Grant Program

$8,000 for installing permanent shade structures for outdoor locations that are not protected from the sun, such as playgrounds, pools, or recreation spaces. Must be recommended by an AAD dermatologist (visit the AAD website to find an AAD member near you)
