Last month, Hendron-Lone Oak Elementary School and The Moses Basket of Calvert City were announced as two of 40 organizations in 19 states to win a $25,000 grant from State Farm's Neighborhood Assist Program.
The program helps fund neighborhood education, safety and community development projects. Since it began, State Farm has awarded $6 million to more than 200 organizations.
Community votes secured the grants for both organizations.
On Friday, State Farm agent Kent Bohanon and his team of employees presented Hendron-Lone Oak Elementary its $25,000 check.
Principal Jon Reid said the grant will allow the school to make critical safety improvements, such as upgrading the PA system and security cameras.
"We will use this for the purpose we implied, for safety for our school and the well being of our students," Reid said.
"You have an idea and you try to drive that idea, but it's really all of those who voted for us that made it possible."
